Stanley Grove Primary Academy
Extreme Weather Plan
It is very rare that the Academy will ever have to close and parents/carers and students should assume that the Academy remains open unless they hear otherwise from the Academy.
Our priority is to remain open for all students. If this is not possible, then we will decide if we can be partially open to a selected number of year groups, such as Year 6, as an example. A final decision to close will only be taken after all previous options have been considered.
In the event of severe weather conditions, for example, very heavy snow or flooding, causing the academy to be closed, the Academy will report to parents/carers via:
The decision will be made by the Principal, following consultation with the Trust CEO/Director of School Improvement by 7:30am each day.
Bad Weather Forecast for the following day
a) Every attempt will be made to make and communicate a decision before students leave the academy at the end of the day.
b) This decision will be one of the following:
If the weather takes a turn for the worse the day/night before, the Principal/Deputy CEO/CEO will make a decision as early as possible and hopefully by 7.30 am on the day in which the bad weather occurs.
If the Academy is due to close, this will be announced on the website and social media. A text message will also be sent out to parents/carers and staff. The message on the answer machine and the absence line will be updated if appropriate.
Please wait for updates from the school. Please do not keep calling. We will share this information on a pop up on the website too.
Early Closure
Should heavy snow or extreme weather conditions during the academy day necessitate an early finish, parent/ carers will be contacted to collect their children. No children will be allowed to walk home alone in extreme weather conditions. Any changes to the end of the day arrangements will be communicated by parent text, the website and social media.
Partial Opening
This is where the school is open but some staff and pupils may be unable to attend due to weather conditions. It may be that only certain groups are invited into schools. In this case, parents/carers are asked to exercise extreme caution if bringing their children to school and students are reminded to walk to and from school, and around the school grounds, with great care. We will do our best to clear pathways but this is not always possible. We may relax our normal high expectations of punctuality as we appreciate traffic and transport may make it difficult for students to get into school on time.
At the end of the day, students should travel home as usual but there will be no after school clubs or staff meetings. It may be that, in certain cases, we close the school early (see above)
Other Information
It is absolutely vital that we have updated contact details so that we are able to communicate with parents/carers. If you know that we do not have your updated details, please contact the school urgently to update.
Please note that snow routes on school grounds will be cleared, salted and gritted but may ice over in extreme weather conditions. Everyone should, take care whist on the school grounds. Please be aware that the school will not be liable for any injuries that occur.
Paths outside the school grounds are not the responsibility of the school and will not be included in our path clearing operations. Should we have to close the school for more than one day, class teachers will provide work for the students on the Class Dojo.
Thank you for your cooperation, patience and support in these challenging circumstances.
