All of our Year 4 children attend swimming lessons on site during the Spring Term. We are partnering with Dream Big Sports, who will install the pool and provide swimming instructors and life guards. This will save a lots of time as we are no longer travelling to the swimming pool. It will also allow us to provide extra swimming lessons for pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 who did not pass the requirements in Year 4. Learning about water safety and knowing how to keep safe in water is a life skill, and as such is recognised and measured in the same ways as other key subjects. All pupils in Year 4 must join in with swimming as it is a national curriculum subject.
The aims of the swimming lessons are:
| What % of your current Year 6 cohort swim competently. confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres? | 70% |
| What % of your current Year 6 cohort use a range of strokes effectively (For example front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke)? | 51% |
| What % of your current Year 6 cohort perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations | 50% |
| What % of your current Year 5 cohort swim competently. confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres? | 89% |
| What % of your current Year 5 cohort use a range of strokes effectively (For example front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke)? | 79% |
| What % of your current Year 5 cohort perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations | 79% |
| Schools can choose to use the Primary PE and Sport Premium to provide additional provision for swimming but this must be for activity over and above the national curriculum requirements. Have you used it in this way? | No |
