Art and Design

Subject Lead – Nahla Zeiton

Art and Design provides children with many opportunities to experience our curriculum driver of ‘Creativity’. The threshold concepts below are visited within every unit, with other discrete skills taught within specific units in a progressive way. The curriculum has been written for our context by our former resident artist and current subject leader. Artist have been carefully chose to develop both children’s cultural capital and to celebrate diversity. We believe it is important that children see themselves in the artist that inspire them.

In 2024, a previously bleak-looking school corridor at Stanley Grove Primary Academy was completely transformed into a fantastic Art Gallery! What were previously blank walls, are now walls showcasing children’s artwork from Early Years to Year 6. Now children and staff from across the Year groups, can see and read about what each other have been creating and learning about in their classrooms. It is an amazing addition to the school and highlights just how talented the super creative pupils are!
